I picked up on an more mature subject matter/put up where others that have mentioned that a barrel having the “Oval P” could have been equipped by Winchester:

Firearms obtaining the “WP” evidence to the receiver although not within the barrel, the barrel owning only the “Oval P” would suggest an older inventory mail get barrel.

The main Models were being made available exclusively in stable body; subsequent models have been presented also in takedown configuration. All 1st Winchester safety and early 2nd models experienced scenario hardened receivers.

For barrels & receivers produced soon after 1905: Receivers owning the “WP” evidence but no “WP” or “Oval P” evidence on the barrel would reveal the barrel was changed outside of Winchester utilizing a pre-1905 barrel.
